VallE d'Aosta Snow and avalanche bulletin

The seventeenth edition of the report describes the progress of the 2021/2022 snow season, characterised by a promising start with average snowfall for the month of December, then little snow, a lot of wind, positive temperature anomalies for the rest of the winter season, and a finale that was still little snow and very warm except for a parenthesis at the end of April. To sum up, these are the salient features of the 2021/2022 season, which will be remembered for the scarcity of snow, which in some areas of the region reached record lows, and for its early spring melt.

Despite the low snowfall during the season, 3 accidents were recorded, involving 4 people, 2 injured and 2 killed. The accidents occurred along the north and west ridges of the Aosta Valley in the period between the end of November and mid-December.

Only 79 spontaneous avalanches were recorded, 6 of which were never recorded in the land register and 3 with much larger events than ever observed.
